Abstract

Anjananamika is one of the Vartmagata, Raktapradhana, Sadhya Netra Vikaras. These symptoms resemble nodular swelling on the eyelid. A stye, also known as a hordeolum, is a common problem involving the eye seen in ophthalmology and general medicine OPDs. Classically, a hordeolum appears as a small pustule along the margin of the eyelid. Chalazion is one of the commonest types of eyelid lesions seen in the ophthalmology clinic. It is a chronic, lipogranulomatous inflammatory lesion caused by the blockage of the meibomian glands. Management of Anjananamika in Ayurveda classics consists of Swedana, Bhedana and Pratisarana. Although Pindi is not mentioned directly in the treatment modality of Anjananamika, Pindi can be taken as a form of Swedana. Its mode of action of follows the transdermal pathway for absorption. As the eye lids skin has a thinner stratum corneum, there by showing lower impedance which could be a reason for higher drug permeation through eye lid skin, since the appendages are not significantly present over the eye lid skin. Most of the absorption occurs via epidermal route.
